‘Urgent’ status for beautiful German shepherd out of time at California shelter

Bobo has gotten himself into a difficult situation at the East Valley Animal Shelter in Van Nuys, California, and this could cost him his life.

He entered the shelter as an owner surrender in March 2022, but the person who turned him in had found the one-and-a-half-year-old dog as a stray just three weeks prior. For months, since he has been at the shelter, he has played well in various play groups and volunteers noted how much Bobo loves to play fetch. When surrendered, his owner stated the puppy had been acting aggressively, but it does come into question how such a young dog can be labeled “aggressive” unless no one has been there to teach him respectable behaviors?

How can a one year old become aggressive? How did they train him or what did they train him to be exactly? Bobo is a combination of curiosity, excitement and insecurity. He is very treat and toy motivated and young, his behaviors can easily be corrected with a handler with proper dog IQ. BOBO has been in shelter for 8 months now and he is ready for an experienced dog owner or a rescue where he can relearn structures. An active household will benefit him. It is recommended that Bobo not go to a home with any small children. He was good with the dog on the other side of the fence….no negative reaction. Bobo is a very likeable dog….pretty calm and well behaved

Bobo is listed as one year, nine months and weighs 55 pounds, with lots of energy to play and run. And so it sometimes follows, however when dogs have been at the shelter for an extended period of time, they sometimes start showing stressful behavior. Sadly, Bobo had recently been playing fetch as a potential adopter looked on, and when the person leaned down to grab the ball, Bobo bit him. That action immediately moved Bobo to the front of the line – that is the front of the line and red listed; which means he is scheduled to be euthanized.

At this time Bobo needs a rescue organization to save his life.
