At Fort Worth Animal Care & Control, even adorable and sweet puppies are not safe from being added to the “code red” list which indicates they will soon be euthanized because of space limitations. It’s not that the dogs and puppies misbehave, it’s not that they are not adorable and loveable, and it’s not like the staff and volunteers at the shelters don’t care.

Most of the blame lies with the past owners of these pets – they don’t heed the emergency need to spay and neuter their pets. And too many of these sweet dogs have been surrendered or abandoned because their owners are negligent and lazy. A dog is a commitment for life – not an old shoe to be discarded or thrown out of the car window.

Check out six-month-old Ella. She arrived at the shelter on June 1, 2023 as a stray, and now she is tagged to be euthanized because of “space.” The person who had offered to adopt her backed out.

Here is her information:

Female – Ella

A0052793400 – German Shepherd/Mix,

6 months old

Spayed/Neutered: No

Intake date: 6.1.23 Intake type: Stray

Code red notes: Space
