‘Rosie’ doesn’t wag her tail or greet visitors anymore after 643 days at shelter

At the Pennsylvania SPCA, it’s just another lonely day for Rosie. After all, she’s been at the shelter for 643 days, and everyone visiting seems to just walk by her kennel. Just as the area for adoptions on Monday morning opened up to the public, Rosie ignored the excitement from the other dogs and just continued to quietly snooze in her kennel.

Sadly, Rosie doesn’t greet visitors anymore. She no longer barks or wags her tail.

What a difference from a year ago, and even then Rosie so wanted to be with her own family that she asked the shelter to send off a letter to Santa Claus. At least she still smiled hoping for the Christmas gift of a real home.

Dear Santa, (Dec 2022)
It’s been one whole year since I last wrote to you, asking for you to find me my #furever family for Christmas – and I’m still here at the PSPCA.
Don’t blame yourself Santa, I know you tried really hard to find me a home last year and I’ve been working really hard to make the best of the situation too.
Instead of moping around feeling sorry for myself – I know, I know, sometimes I look a little down – I used this whole year to become the best dog I can be!

It had been in May 2021 when Rosie had been rescued, and since then, she has only had one adoption meet. She is eight-years-old, friendly and would prefer to be the only pet. On her temporary visit to a foster home, Rosie had been the perfect house guest:

Rosie was the a wonderful house guest – she loved taking walks in a quiet cemetery close by and was perfect on leash. Mostly, she loved just hanging out and snuggling up on the couch. Now she just needs to find her #furever home to do that permanently.

Will you give this gal a chance? Come visit her at our Philadelphia headquarters.

Once upon a time, Rosie did have a home. Could you or a friend make her dream come true again?

I came from a home once upon a time and would love to make the journey back into a place where I can be loved and cared for. I promise if you are patient with me I will reward you with the most loyal lady you could ever hope to have in your family. Right now my favorite thing to share with my human is a slobbery old tennis ball, would you want to come down and play a game of fetch?

If so please come into the shelter! I would love to spend some time showing you how charming I can be.

  2. I would offer to foster but any dog in my home must be dog, cat & horse friendly……. Plus like people because we have lots of visitors…….. I suspect that there are lots of people like me…….. want to help but have other animals in the home…….

  3. Couldn’t her foster family keep her? It seems as if it worked out very well- and this poor puppy looks about to give up… We’d take her, but already have 500 lbs of Anatolian Pyrenees (3 dogs)… Please- someone!
