Phoenix police arrested Taishe Renee Le’Von Clark after discovering she allegedly abandoned five dogs inside of an apartment for a week with no food or water following her eviction. One of the dogs died as a result of severe malnourishment, and two of the dogs continue to fight for their lives.
The abandoned dogs were discovered on June 17 at the Fountain Oak Apartments where they had been confined to two plastic crates filled with their own waste. Previous to the discovery of the starving dogs, management had repeatedly reached out to her to take care of the dogs after the eviction.
Police described the disturbing and heartbreaking discovery of the innocent victims:
The dogs’ ribs were clearly visible through their fur, and they were covered in days-old fecal matter and urine. One dog inside a three-dog crate was lying on its side, barely moving, and struggling to breathe.
Although Clark claimed she had been trying to help her pets, she had been quite belligerent to anyone who had tried to assist her by telling them to “mind their own business” insisting the dog barely alive was just dehydrated.
When officers arrived, they immediately transported all five dogs to an emergency veterinary hospital. One dog had already passed upon arrival.
During the course of the investigation, officers spoke to Andre Magee, 34, who told them the dogs belonged to him. He also stated he knew Clark was trying to get hold of the Arizona Humane Society and other shelters, but he said he had not involved in those calls.
Clark is currently being held on a $5,000 bond with her next court appearance scheduled for June 24.
Magee was booked into jail on three charges of animal cruelty, one felony and two misdemeanors.
According to court records Magee has a history of violence against children and animals.
