A 14-year-old dog who was found in a ditch in Maine in the freezing cold has been reunited with her owner. According to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office, a call came in on Saturday about a dog in Arrowsic lying in a ditch.
Deputy Mark Anderson responded to the call and found the dog almost frozen to death. Temperatures had been in the single digits. Claw marks were on the side of the ditch as the dog tried to climb out, but was apparently unsuccessful.
Officer Anderson picked up the dog and brought her back to the dispatch center where she was wrapped in blankets and a portable heater placed near her to warm her up. Deputies warmed up some food and when the pup felt a little warmer and stronger, ate the entire plate.
Lost dog flyers were made by the officers who also started to knock on doors hoping to find the dog’s owner. Finally, the deputy was able to locate the owner who is an elderly woman. She had let the dog outside the night before, but the dog didn’t return – the woman waited up all night for her dog to return.
A huge shout out to Communications Specialist Shaun and Dori, as well as Deputy Anderson, for providing extraordinary care for this animal. The efforts of these three Sagadahoc County employees, without a doubt, saved the life of this precious pet.
