The Tampa Police Department horse, Duncan, is retiring after 10 years of service. Duncan has served as a mounted patrol horse in downtown Tampa, Ybor City and SoHo. He has always been a special horse and his kind nature has attracted many fans.

On May 6, Duncan will be the “riderless horse” one last time in the Tampa Police Department’s Memorial Ceremony scheduled for May 6, 2026 which honors 32 officers who have died in the line of duty.

In addition to his important role in the ceremony, Duncan will also be honored at the event.

Duncan is a Percheron and thoroughbred cross and will be offered to the person who donated him to the police department. If the person does not want him back, the 21-year-old horse will be retired to a farm in Alachua County for retired police horses.

Have a happy retirement Duncan. You have served the Tampa Police Department and their citizens well.
