In Atlanta, Georgia, we meet the sweetest dog at the local shelter now named “The Cat’s Meow” by the non profit animal rescue organization, Hounds in Pounds, Inc.
She is listed by the shelter as a number and “rescue only” because of her severe physical condition. The Cat’s Meow had been found wandering alone on the street. A volunteer for the rescue put her in her car; the dog had barely been alive. She had been living on the edge of existence; her emaciated body was stained, swollen and used over and over for breeding and only for the puppies she could produce.

When she was of no use anymore, she was abandoned. Every bone in her body could be seen through her skin as well as the shiny coat that once covered her body. Her face was sunken in, and her teeth protruded from her mouth. Her eye sockets were hollow.

In addition her white paws were stained brown and yellow from her own urine. She was not permitted to go outdoors to walk around, and she was left in a small area surviving in filth. She seldom slept, and the only food she ever received were scraps; and it was a fight to survive – just one more day when no one really cared.
She smelled awful, but despite all this, she never lost her desire to be loved and to please humans.

i’m so happy when someone here in the shelter gives me love. i wiggle. i lean into them. i’m still trying to hold on to hope.
Hounds in Pounds is asking supporters to save The Cat’s Meow, so they can provide her with the urgent medical care, proper nutrition, safety, warmth and return the dignity to her she should always have had prior to the betrayal she has so bravely endured. She is in pain and needs help now.
look at her. This is what neglect looks like. This is what overbreeding looks like. This is what happens when a dog is used until there is nothing left.
And yet The Cat’s Meow remains a loving dog and still trusting of people.
