On Tuesday evening, a heartbreaking call came into Detroit Pit Crew Rescue from Detroit Police Department’s animal advocate and hero, Office Delaney, regarding a dog he found severely injured lying amid trash and debris.

Officer Kyle Delaney is a Detroit Police Department (DPD) officer who, as of early 2026, became the department’s first officer dedicated exclusively to investigating animal cruelty cases.
The dog was rushed to an emergency veterinarian hospital with hopes he would survive and heal. Officer Delaney named him Sutton.
Just two days later, the heartbreaking report about Sutton had been posted on the rescue organization’s social media page.
Please be assured that Sutton did know he was being helped. Even though he was feeling weak and barely able to eat, whenever any of the staff came over to him, Sutton would wag his tail in gratitude. He knew he was finally loved.

…despite our best efforts, Sutton didn’t make it. He remained in care at an emergency veterinarian hospital, and his medical team made every effort possible to try to save his life, however in the end he couldn’t fight anymore.
We all wish we could have provided our readers with better news, but let it be known that Sutton’s life mattered, and we all wish he could have had the life he so deserved.

Advocates are continuing to collaborate with Officer Delaney and investigators and law enforcement to seek justice on behalf of Sutton.
Rest in peace Sutton.
