At ACCT Philly (Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia), a ten-year-old, blind senior pup named Hunnit, was described as the “most depressed dog” at the shelter.

Hunnit and his brother had been picked up from the streets as strays in late March 2026. The two were extremely bonded and cuddled together; seeking each other’s companionship for comfort in a strange place where the noises were deafening, and everyone was a stranger.

Shortly after the arrival of the siblings, Hunnit’s brother had been diagnosed with a severe medical condition, and he passed away just days later.

Sometimes fate steps in just in time, and shortly after Hunnit’s brother died, volunteer @rachelishaa arrived at the shelter and asked the staff which dog had no interest. And that’s when Hunnit became Rachel’s “Dog of the Week” where she chooses a dog to brighten up their day and provide them with the social media airtime they need to help them find their new homes.

Hunnit had been especially shut down when Rachel met him. The dog had just lost his brother and didn’t understand why he couldn’t find or feel his best friend. He was just so sad, and when Rachel took him out of his kennel, he barely wanted to walk with her. He didn’t want to go into her car for a day trip, so instead Rachel set up a picnic for the two of them.

Hunnit still wasn’t ready to feel the warmth of the afternoon or the kindness of Rachel, but 20 minutes later, he slowly came out of his shell. Toys had been scattered over the blanket ready to be chewed or just cuddled, and of course, there were delicious treats ready for his discerning palate. Yes, Hunnit is blind, but his adorable nose worked just fine.
As their play date ended and Hunnit was returned to the shelter, the video Rachel made showing the heartwarming interaction of the two and the need for an adopter or rescue organization to step forward, worked in just hours.
Later that afternoon, Phoenix Animal Rescue volunteered to rescue him, and Hunnit has since been adopted.

He gets to live out his golden years in a home!
Many thanks to Rachel for reaching out to a senior dog who needed someone to tell his story.
Please don’t shop when you can adopt.
