Abandoned puppy in desert miraculously survives predatory animal attack thanks to kindest rescuers

In a rural area of Phelan, California, located in the High Desert region of the Mojave Desert in San Bernardino County, four 12-week-old puppies had been abandoned by their heartless owner. The puppies had been left to survive on their own, but luckily a neighbor had spotted the little ones and was able to round up three of the puppies and bring them to safety.

But what about the fourth puppy? One puppy was missing. She had disappeared for days. Faith Easdale, the director of Dream Fetchers Project Rescue, along with experienced rescuer, Jim Ralston, responded.

No one knew where the puppy had gone.

And then the last puppy returned days later. Her neck had been severely injured and ripped open as if attacked by a predatory hunter. Perhaps she had been attacked by a mountain lion? After all, mountain lions almost exclusively target the neck or throat of their prey to achieve a quick kill. And somehow she survived and was able to run away from her attacker.

After the puppy returned, one of the neighbors wanted to end her life, but when she told Faith the sweet puppy was eating, drinking and not having any issues, Faith rushed to the puppy’s aide.

What happened to her has not been definitively determined, but when she was with the litter of her brothers and sisters, she was fine. While most puppies are playing and jumping happily bouncing off of each other, one puppy had been trying her best to survive.

Faith was there to help, and rushed the puppy, she named Panda, to the rescue organization’s partner veterinarian for immediate care.

And here’s where Panda’s story really begins. The veterinarian told Faith there had been foxtails in the puppy’s open, infected neck wound. There was evidence her trachea had been nicked, but Panda has an amazing will to live and excellent medical care. The dehydrated puppy’s neck was carefully irrigated and started on antibiotics to stave off further infections.

Panda will have an uphill battle, but she is expected to make a full recovery with a full life ahead of her.

Panda’s veterinary bills have been very expensive. Donations are needed:
