Heartbreaking: Dog abandoned on Georgia roadside could have been surrendered to nearby rescue instead

Audray, the owner of Lucks Rescue in Dade County, Georgia was heartbroken earlier this week after a man was captured on video abandoning a dog on the side of the road in northwest Georgia.

The dog had been left to wander on Old State Road in Menlo, and was later rescued by Lucks Rescue Center after finding out the dog had been left alone and was injured. Odds are the dog had been struck by a car; his leg appeared injured.

It took several hours to rescue this dog.

I DON’T KNOW WHY HIS OWNER WOULD ABANDON HIM ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.

Because Dade County doesn’t have an animal shelter, the responsibility of caring for abused and neglected animals often falls on Audray.

She says she wishes the owner had known there was a better option; the dog now dubbed Apollo could have been surrendered to her rescue rather than leaving him alone frightened and in danger of losing his life so close to the road where traffic sped by.

Audray is hoping someone might want to adopt Apollo or at least recognize the dog so a follow-up can be investigated. Abandoning a pet is illegal.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dade County Sheriff’s Office.
