Meet family dog named Machis; she is a 25-pound cocker spaniel mix and she’s a hero. No kidding; Machis managed to defuse a stick of dynamite that had been tossed into her owner’s yard, picked it up into her mouth, chewed at the fizzing fuse and bit into it, extinguishing the would be devastating blast.

According to her owner and journalist Carlos Alberto Mesias Zarate, it had been late one evening when he and his dog had been in their yard when someone tossed a lighted stick of dynamite into the yard.

According to @super manchis TikTok video,

Home surveillance cameras showed an unknown suspect tossing the lit dynamite stick into the journalist’s yard and then quickly leaving. That’s when Machis ran down the steps, found the fizzling stick, pushed it around in her mouth and then chewed it off – rendering the dynamite harmless.

The fuse, as miraculous as it sounds, separated from the same kind of explosive commonly used in landmines.

A suspect has since been arrested.

Machis suffered serious injury. Her vocal chords were burned as she chewed the detonator. She is no longer able to bark, although her family still regards her as the best dog in the world.

Brings us back to the age old question – do humans really deserve the goodness, loyalty and love of our dogs? Give your dog a hug.
