In Oakland, California, a family was overjoyed and brought to happy tears on Wednesday, after they were reunited with their dog Peach, who had been missing for more than a year.

It had been the San Rafael Police Department and the Marin Humane who found the six-year-old chihuahua during an animal abuse investigation. Peach was removed from the cruel situation and placed in protective custody with Marin Humane. The person who allegedly stole the dog has since been arrested and charged with felony animal abuse.
Fortunately, Peach was microchipped, leading authorities to discover she had been missing from a family in San Francisco dating back to June 2024.

Even though Peach had been missing for more than a year, it only took a few seconds for her to remember her family. SRPD and Marin Humane were proud to partner together to ensure the safety of Peach and get her returned to her rightful family.
This is a great reminder to ensure your pet is licensed and microchipped in case it is ever lost or runs away.
