UPDATE: Gone but forever in our hearts ;-(

At Manhattan’s New York City Animal Care Centers, Rookie is about to lose his life. This cuddle bug loves other dogs and children, however his last adoption didn’t work out, so instead of helping this 94-pound, 11-month-old puppy with his manners, a euthanasia command stands instead. And his death sentence is to be carried out soon!

In a last minute plea for help, perhaps some of these positive notes and observations from shelter volunteers who have actually interacted with Rookie will help him find help? Please share them wherever you are able and give Rookie a chance to find love and a wonderful new life.

He warmed up to me quickly ( as he has done with other volunteers and staff) wiggling and leaning into me (surprisingly, gentle for a huge, energetic puppy) as I showered him with attention…back and butt scratches, cheek and chin rubs – he loves them all! I tried playing fetch and giving him toys, but he is much more interested in cuddling and getting pet. Rookie came to us when his family moved to a no- pets home. They describe him as social, affectionate, outgoing and playful, including with children and dogs

Unfortunately, at the shelter, and who can blame any dog for being afraid, shivering, defensive or unable to figure out what is happening, Rookie was reactive when introduced to a female dog. He is, however described as partially housetrained, and is working on his cues to “sit” when asked. He’s very motivated with treats, loves to cuddle and wants to be and share love. No one knows why Rookie is afraid of water; even the sound of water running, scares him.

Fight for Rookie, advocate for him. Adopt or foster Rookie before it’s too late. He will be a giant bundle of forever love that will enter your life and heart!

Check out his video. Why should this sweetheart have to lose his life today?

Rookie has been given a deadline by NYC ACC, to find homes. He needs a committed foster, rescue organization or adopter because he has been time stamped. Rookie is living on borrowed time. Please do what you can to help each one, or their lives will be extinguished for being homeless and unwanted.
