‘Tull’ is out of time at NYC shelter and because he is old no one thinks his life is worth saving

A sweet, social senior dog named “Tull” is scheduled to be euthanized on Tuesday afternoon because no one has stepped forward to accompany him out of Brooklyn’s Animal Care Center. He is underweight and has arthritis. So many families looking to adopt a dog from the busy shelter have turned their backs on Tull – after all he is old and isn’t nearly as adorable as the puppies in the shelter cages next to him.

Tull’s advocate hopes everyone will read her observation of this sweet boy:

Meet Tull, a charmer of an old man. At 10 years old Tull was abandoned with a friend who cared for him for 6 months, but could not continue to do so. Which brings him to us today at the Brooklyn ACC where we are beyond pleased to meet his acquaintance. Tull has some stiffness in his hind legs, giving him an adorable gait. His legs may not be 100% but his nose sure is. Sitting next to Rachal on the steps he sniffs out some treats, and gently puts his nose in her pocket to help himself. It’s so cute that we keep re-stuffing her pocket so he can find more and more…

Tull has found shelter life a bit overwhelming, but when he’s out with the volunteers, he becomes a “love bug.”

Owner notes at time of surrender:

Owner had Tull in the home for 6 months but had to surrender due to no time. Tull previously lived with 2 adults. When a stranger would come to the owner’s home, Tull was shy for a few minutes and hide or bark when approached. Once comfortable, he is friendly and allows petting. The owner did not have any children but would have friends and family members come to the home with children of all ages and stated that Tull was friendly and playful with them. The owner did not have any other dogs in the home but when taking Tull for a walk he would sometimes bark at other dogs. Tull has not been around any cats so behavior is unknown. He will hard bark and growl when someone approaches his food and treats. Tull does not have a bite history. Tull is housetrained. His previous owner describes Tull’s energy level as medium.
