Shadow wants to be noticed. Maybe his turn will come soon? And so he patiently waits for someone with kind eyes to approach his kennel.
And that’s when Devore Animal Shelter volunteer Kelly Marie walked by. Shadow couldn’t get close enough. His tail wagged so hard making his entire body wiggle with joy. He stretched his face through the kennel bars; yes that kind human was special; he could tell, and Shadow wanted desperately to be with her. He didn’t want a treat; he wanted to be noticed.
Kelly’s heart broke as she watched him press his face between the bars. How long had he been waiting for someone to notice?
And despite the disappointments when people walked by his kennel and took no notice, Shadow retained his optimism and his excitement. Even those few moments someone had made eye contact with him, felt to Shadow as if the clouds disappeared, and the sun started to shine. Oh, to have some attention, and oh to be loved again.
