In a rural area of North Carolina, a beagle mix has lived his entire life as an unloved and forgotten stray. Someone had dumped him, and all he knew how to do was to scavenge for food, hide from predators and not get close to humans since they had all betrayed him.

And so the dog, dubbed Butch wandered the local abandoned properties and when he could – begged for food. He loved to play with the local dogs and would often join them on their daily walks with their humans, but Butch always kept his distance from the owners who tried to capture him.

The director of S.N.A.R.R Animal Rescue Northeast had recently been on vacation on a nearby lake when she spotted Butch. She couldn’t forget the longing in his eyes and the loneliness his overall demeanor portrayed. She could tell he yearned for attention and love; he was just too frightened to approach anyone for it, since he had rarely received any human kindness. It was then the woman made it her mission to help Butch get off the streets and into a home.

Although she tried for days to capture Butch, when it was time for her to leave, she promised the dog a better life. It took three experienced trappers a few weeks to successfully rescue him, but he was finally safe.

Butch is very sweet and not any aggression whatsoever, he is just shy and needs a home to call his own. Butch absolutely LOVES other dogs and thrives around them so we are looking for a family who has a canine companion for Butch. He also requires a fully fenced yard because of his history of being a hard to catch stray. Butch is slowly learning that people are not bad and they are not going to hurt him. He’s currently stuck in a cage at our shelter, because we have no free kennels. Butch really deserves to finally have a loving family and home to feel safe and loved. Can you help Butch ???

Butch is estimated to be a year-and-a-half old, is house-trained and very sweet. The staff tells us Butch even knows how to sing.

Butch is currently located in Brewster NY but can be transported for the right home.
