In Bartholomew County, Indiana, humane officers are asking for the public’s help identifying the person(s) responsible for abandoning a dog in front of the Bartholomew County Humane Society on Tuesday morning. The weather was in the teens when an employee of the animal welfare organization arrived and found the frightened pup just waiting.
And there was a beautiful Rottweiler tied to a bench along the sidewalk. His leash, water bowl and food bowl had been left by his side. The poor pup was visibly upset and softly whimpering.
Our cameras show someone, who seems to know him well, tying him to the bench at 6am. He stood on the sidewalk, in the dark, in the cold until our team came in after 8am.
This is illegal and cruel. And it wasn’t necessary, a call to the shelter could have offered options that didn’t involve illegally dumping a pet in the dark cold November morning. Cruelty is never the best option.

Someone knew this pup and still decided to abandon him. The video shows the person petting and reassuring the dog. The dog could then be seen struggling to try and follow the woman. When a work truck approached at some point in the morning, the dog sniffed quickly and then backed away – knowing these weren’t his people.

Will, and in the video it’s clear the dumper cares for this dog and yet left him in the cold dark night. We watched him struggle to follow his mom, then sniff around in the dark. A work truck spotted him and he backed away from the strange vehicle-it wasn’t his person. Now he’s in a packed kennel, cared for by strangers with no idea what happened. This is a rufffffff job some days.

Days later, the dog is finally starting to relax and has been following one of the staff members. He knows sit, stay and shake, and for sure, someone once cared for this beautiful pooch. After he is cleared medically and emotionally, he will be available for adoption.
The organization’s animal control officer reported this crime with the Bartholomew County Sheriff – Sheriff Matt Myers and there will be increased patrols for second and third shift units. Do not dump your pet; it is ILLEGAL!
