Swept in confiscation case with 34 other dogs Wolf Gang tries to make sense of shelter chaos before time is up

Somewhere in the chaos was Wolf Gang; only a year old when animal control officers from San Bernardino, California, confiscated 35 dogs. Thirty-five lives changed in a single day. Thirty-five dogs were removed from everything they had known and forced into shelter life with strangers, loud noises and turmoil.

Wolf Gang is little more than a puppy. Aren’t puppies supposed to be playing in the grass, chewing on sticks and learning to be social and beloved companions to the children and adults who care for them at this more than adorable age?

Instead, this puppy is sitting in a shelter kennel.

And now he waits. Shelter notes indicate he is scheduled to be humanely euthanized soon. Although there are few notes about Wolf Gang’s behavior and socialization, he can only be saved by an approved animal rescue organization. (reported on notes as “fearful”)

According to volunteers who have met him, however state he is friendly with other dogs, kind and easygoing. No doubt, Wolf Gang should be looking forward to a full life – not a few days.

And sadly in the overcrowded conditions of the Devore Animal Shelter in San Bernardino, California, being young and gorgeous doesn’t protect him from becoming a statistic from the lonely backroom where the break of day is no longer celebrated.

It’s heartbreaking to think that a dog who has barely begun living could lose the chance to truly live at all.

He doesn’t need perfection. He doesn’t need someone with all the answers.

He just needs someone to see him.

Someone to say, “That one. I’m not leaving him behind.”
