Hernan and his family were surrendered to the DeKalb County Animal Services a few days ago with his mother and siblings. The puppies are six-months-old and, they are all stuck in the back kennel cages of the overcrowded shelter.
As for Hanan, he had been completely overwhelmed when he arrived. He was covered in flea dirt and had no idea why he had been separated from his littermates in the noisy environment.
A volunteer reached out to the puppy on Monday to give him comfort:

He was so fearful in the shelter, but the second i picked him up, he smiled! Like he just heard someone say, ‘who wants Taco Bell?’ from the other room.
The smile on the 25-pound puppy immediately appears whenever he’s picked up and cuddled.
The smile only comes out when he’s being carried. His whole body relaxes, and he just melts into you like he finally feels safe for a minute. When you put him down, he tries to hide behind whatever is closest to him with his tail tucked.
Hernan or his siblings (and of course his mother) should not be growing up scared in the back of an overcrowded kennel.

Photos of his mother and his siblings above. Meet Harriet, Hugo, Humberto, Hartish and Hartell.
Please share their plights. They deserve better.
Please spay and neuter your pets. This wouldn’t be so urgent, and these sweet dogs wouldn’t be so scared, had their owners been responsible pet owners.
Please come meet Hernan.
