Zeus is a two-year-old German shepherd mix who is having a really tough time in the shelter environment. When you see his brief video, the signs of stress are heartbreaking.
The Broward County Animal Care in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, reports Zeus had been barking, repeatedly pacing, whining and excessively drooling. He is overwhelmed with the noise and the confinement at the shelter, and the situation is taking a toll on his mental health.

YET … once Zeus is let out of his kennel and taken outside, everything changes. He walks well on a leash, is sweet and easy to handle, gently takes treats and appears to be housetrained.

Once outdoors and away from the loud confusion inside the shelter, he’s a relaxed and laid back dog who just wants to feel safe. He is not doing well in the shelter, and his acting out isn’t being done on purpose; Zeus just doesn’t want to be there, and we all know how smart the breed is. As the volunteers state, Zeus’ behavior in the shelter does not define who he is.

Medically, he is fully vetted and ready for his forever home. The shelter is looking to place Zeus with a transfer partner who can give him time to decompress and show his true personality. This young dog just needs someone willing to look past the kennel and see the good pup he really is.
