Since August 12, Angel has been at the old shelter area for Miami-Dade Animal Services; no pleas had been posted by the shelter until September 22, and today she is scheduled to be euthanized.

Angel is still alive, and this is the first time we have had to meet her, and perhaps this will be the last time. She’s about three-years-old, weighs 37 pounds, has been overbred and arrived at the shelter as a stray. Her veterinarian examination stated she had alopecia, conjunctivitis and tested heartworm positive.

Even more offensive was the scleral hemorrhaging of one eye – caused by a CATCHPOLE! And this is life in a shelter?

And there’s more. Angel is described as terrified and runs to the back area of her filthy kennel when anyone walks by. She has never tried to bite anyone but her fear prompts her keeping her distance. She has received treats very gently.

This is how she looked when she first arrived at the shelter? What happened?

She has been at the old shelter for 47 days and her existence never acknowledged. She contracted a URI on 8/28 which is now resolved. She never got a plea. They finally issued one on 9/22 with a 9/27 deadline. They are killing her because she’s trembling!

Volunteers Lisa and Anne

It is important to note the old shelter is now being used for the overflow of dogs, and without it many of the dogs would die for lack of space. The issue is that the dogs being kept at the old shelter are mostly forgotten, and if it wasn’t for volunteers calling out for help, these dogs too often are just disposable.

The public is not allowed in the old shelter and these dogs, just like Angel, are just not considered important to the shelter.
