Terrified dog dumped back into shelter carrying her toy will find her forever home

Luna, a six-year-old Labrador retriever mix, arrived back at Miami-Dade Animal Services late last week after the family who adopted her in February decided they no longer wanted her. Luna was terrified at the sight of the shelter and had to be carried in with her favorite toy clutched in her mouth.

Her adopters claimed they had “boarded her for three days but no one answered me to adopt her.” And so the petrified Luna went back into a cage and hoped someone would rescue her. After all, she was described as great with young children including toddlers as well as being housetrained. Luna just doesn’t like other dogs, so she would have to be an only pet.

Fortunately social media and the heart-filled support of advocates and rescuers helped Luna. On Thursday afternoon, she was rescued by Humans and Animals United.

Luna is all smiles today! Miami-Dade Animal Services kept her safe until we could arrive. They said a loving goodbye to Luna and gave her the toy she had in her kennel as a goodbye gift. How anyone could abandon such a sweet girl is disturbing. This girl was shaking in her kennel, had to be carried back because she was just afraid.

Luna is now at Ferreira Animal Hospital. She will be staying with them until medically cleared and then on to her foster home.
