Man jailed for kicking puppy to death

Tiny puppies surrendered to shelter in a plastic bag

Barely able to open their eyes on a high temperature and humidity day, three-week-old puppies were surrendered to the Harris County Animal Shelter wrapped in a plastic garbage bag and placed in a cardboard box.

The Harris County Animal Shelter Pets in Need Facebook page posted their heartbreaking story:

“Who brings 3 week old puppies in a plastic bag in the heat to surrender to Harris County Animal Shelter Pets in Need? Heartbreaking.”

There was no perfect way to deal with the situation; the shelter had a three-hour surrender line over Labor Day weekend. They are over capacity with nearly 400 animals in need. Many animals have fee-waived adoptions and are already spayed/neutered they can walk out today into a new home.

UPDATE:. One of our volunteers held the puppies while another grabbed a laundry basket with a blanket. They found out the owner had the mama dog. So they found the shelter's surrender prevention counselor to talk with the owner. The owner left the puppies, which we feel would be a safer solution. The owner has agreed to bring the mom and dad dog for spay/ neutering.Who brings 3 week old puppies in a plastic bag in the heat to surrender to Harris County Animal Shelter Pets in Need?
