The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office were shocked this week at the horrific dog abuse of 11 pit bulls found starving and locked outside of a home near Highway 70. The dogs were rescued on Wednesday night; each one of them weighed less than one-half of what dogs their age and breed should weigh.
According to Fox News, an employee from an energy company discovered the dogs and called authorities. Monroe County deputies arrested Duran Brown and Scarlett Watson for the alleged abuse and have now charged the couple with 11 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty. Investigators believed the dogs were being used for breeding and fighting.
Out of the Ashes Pit Bull Rescue are caring for the dogs. Katie Miceli, the director of the organization said the dogs had no food or water. Especially concerning was the discovery of one female who had recently given birth to a litter of puppies, but they were nowhere to be found. Katie believes the mother ate her puppies out of desperation.
