People drove by the young, terribly neglected dog on a busy highway in Southern California, but no one stopped to help – that is until a Good Samaritan turned around, stopped her car and wrapped the injured one-year-old dog in a sheet and brought her to safety earlier this week.
Animal shelter volunteer, Andrea Neyses shared Miracle’s story; a young dog so sweet and loving, despite what appeared to have been a case of horrible neglect and cruelty. She described the dog as so grateful for a soft human touch; a dog who knew she was rescued. Andrea’s message also asked for the public’s help reporting animal cruelty:
“Miracle had gotten away from a horrible home of neglect who allowed her to get in this condition in her short 1 year old life. Miracle is full of sores, cuts and mange? Yet shes so sweet and loving , grateful of touch. If you know someone doing this , a neighbor and you don’t report it , just do please?? This is cruel and no reason…I pray her terrible owners don’t come for her,” Andrea stated on her Facebook page after posting the dog’s heartbreaking photos.
And so Andrea’s efforts, and her wishes as well, all came true. On Wednesday afternoon, Miracle was rescued by Leave No Paws Behind. Founder, Toby Wisneski, of the all volunteer, non-profit rescue shared the news on Facebook:
“Happy tail waggin’ Thursday from our sweet Miracle! Even with all the very obvious abuse and neglect she has known, that limp little tail still wags. We are waiting on blood tests results however, doc tells us she is doing good and even though she cowers at the sight of a raised human hand, she was rubbing all over the doc’s legs this morning looking for love OR perhaps it is her way of thanking them at The Pet Doctors of Sherman Oaks for taking such great care of her and protecting her from all harm.”
The puppy’s latest blood work shows she is anemic, malnourished and has protein in her urine. She also came back positive for demodex mange and has been started on treatment.
“Oh I have to tell you this little girl is such a love, and she so wants to trust us mere humans, AND we have assured her she is now SAFE from all harm and that pretty soon she is gonna feel GREAT and can finally be the playful pup she was meant to be,” Toby added.
Many thanks to Andrea for bringing Miracle’s plight to social media, and many thanks to everyone sharing this puppy’s story. Now she is right where she belongs. To donate to help Miracle’s veterinary and recovery expenses, click here.
