At the City of San Bernardino Animal Services, a 15-year-old ChowChow was brought to the shelter by the owner who was requesting help, but instead of waiting their turn, they abandoned their dog in the middle of the lobby.

This should not be how a life ends
Fifteen years of loyalty… left on a lobby floor..
Watched her family walked away
This is what we know:
Gender: Female
Weight: 122#
Age: Approximately 15 years old
Kennel V132
Needs Placement By: 02/13/2026
Description: I arrived at the San Bernardino City Animal Shelter on 02/07/2026 from San Bernardino.
I need specialized care. I can only be placed with an approved 501(c)(3) rescue organization due to medical needs.

From Kennel Card:
Treatment History 02/07/26 BORDETELLA-DA2PPV-DEWORMER (PYRANTEL) FLEA TRTMNT (TOPICAL)
This senior will need health examinations and blood work performed. The dog also appears to be extremely obese and has been rated a “9 out of 9 on the BCS chart.” She is able to walk, but because of her weight and age, she has a difficult time with her mobility. She may also be arthritic.
Her left eye may have been a birth defect or the result of trauma and does not seem as if it was fully formed. Her right eye is swollen, and it might be possible glaucoma.
The shelter is not a place for this old gal. There is no veterinarian on premises, and she needs more medical intervention as well as an environment for senior dogs to receive specialized care. The shelter has placed her with a medical deadline.
If her condition deteriorates prior to placement, humane euthanasia may be considered. Medical deadline: 02/13/2026 at 2:00PM
