At the Española Humane, in New Mexico, a husky missing for seven years was able to be reunited with his family thanks to a microchip. Welcome home Bentley.
A Good Samaritan had found the husky and brought him to the shelter. As is standard procedure, whenever a dog arrives at the shelter, it is scanned for a microchip. And there it was!
Let’s fast forward after one scan and then one phone call! Fortunately, the information on Bentley’s microchip was still active, and when the staff from Espanola called, his family answered.
You see – Bentley had been missing for seven years.
And if that wasn’t shocking enough news for the family who soon arrived at the rescue, Bentley never forgot. The moment Bentley saw his family, he knew! According to the staff who were there when the family arrived, Bentley ran straight into their arms, climbed into their laps and kissed them. Bentley’s mom, Erica burst into tears.
This reunion happened because of a microchip—and because the contact information was up to date. Chips don’t have expiration dates. Love doesn’t either. Please make sure your pet’s microchip info is current… you never know when it might be the reason a family is made whole again!
Please make sure to microchip your pets. Many shelters and rescue organizations offer the service for free, and even if it costs between $20 to $50, most shelters perform the service for no charge.
