Austin police are investigating a case of animal cruelty after videos circulated on social media showed a dog being abused on the outside deck of a downtown apartment complex Sunday night.

The video, which immediately went viral after being posted on Reddit, showed the frustration where the witness claimed nothing was being done to help the dog.
Have called police 2x now and they’re unable to do anything despite showing them the videos. This is an ongoing thing. It breaks my heart hearing this dogs cries of pain. If the police can’t do anything, what other options are there to try to save this dog from this abuse?
According to the statement posted on the Facebook page of the Austin Police Department, officers had responded to an animal urgent call around 3:56 p.m. Sunday, February 8, at the SEVEN Apartments, located at 615 West 7th Street. Police said they had received multiple reports from residents and members of the public about videos that appeared to show a dog being physically abused on an apartment balcony.

A complainant told police a male subject had been restraining a dog on the balcony between chairs and subsequently striking the animal while it cried out in fright and in pain.
The individual in the video has been alleged to be John Kaschak, a 35-year-old resident. An investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made.

The Blue Lacy named Boone was later seized and brought to the Austin Animal Services to be examined. The dog appeared to be in good health. The staff have been working on making the dog feel safe and comfortable.
