At the Pennsylvania SPCA, Ben arrived this past week fighting for his life. His story almost ended Thursday morning as he was carried into the emergency veterinarian hospital. Ben was so weak he could not even lift his head.

Ben had been transferred from the ACCT Philly; his body too weak and too cold to move. He was shutting down and not far from death.

The staff gently cradled his head in their hands, and he looked up at them with those soft, tired eyes.
Just to survive, Ben needed an emergency blood transfusion. Summer Lily, another dog at the rescue, became his blood donor. No doubt this sweet girl is a hero; she graciously helped to save a life.

Ben, a young pittie, should be running, playing and living carefree. Instead, he arrived at the rescue dangerously emaciated, hypothermic and barely responsive.

The medical team prepared the IV fluids, warming blankets and carefully monitored Ben. His emaciated body had been starved for so long that he would need a careful refeeding schedule as not to do more damage to his already compromised system.
He has a long road ahead. But he is here. He is warm. And those gentle eyes that looked up at our team? They have a flicker in them.
Ben is fighting. And we are fighting alongside him.
Here’s the story of Summer Lily too. She really needs a hero of her own now. Ben is fighting for his life, but Summer Lily is healthy, sweet and ready to go home.
Summer Lily is all about the simple joys in life – especially hot dogs. Offer her one, and you’ll have a best friend for life. Her sweet, loyal heart makes her impossible not to love.

If you’re a fan of Mastiffs, you are going to absolutely adore Summer Lily. Come meet this incredible girl and see for yourself just how special she truly is!
