In Compton, California, a small dog’s heartbreaking life tethered to a pole and neglected for years finally ended after being freed by Suzette Hall, founder of the nonprofit animal rescue Logan’s Legacy 29.

For days, the tiny, defenseless dog’s photo and brief videos had been posted on social media. Hall was able to trace the location of the dog and asked the owner surrender him, however the owner insisted she wanted $300. To Hall, having to pay to rescue a neglected and abused dog she could smell, no matter how she felt towards the despicable human who owned the dog, she handed over the money, and yes, the tiny dog she named Salem was finally safe.
Check out the video clip. How could she walk away?
We were able to get him safe. She did relinquish him to us—but only after we had to pay $300. And I hate having to pay for dogs, I really do. But there was no way I was leaving him there… not in that filth, not in that garbage, not in that kind of suffering.
So we got him out.
Salem was immediately transported to the rescue’s partner veterinarian. The dog’s horrible life is now behind him; only love, safety, and a future full of kindness from here on out.

And now for the update. Salem is about 10-years-old. It’s hard to imagine he spent that entire time chained up, neglected and more than likely more forgotten than remembered.
And now, all that filth is gone; his heavy matting has been shaved away. His skin conditions have been clearing up. Those soft, medicated baths have become so soothing for a tiny pup who seemingly never complains.
But that horrible life he was freed from just days ago is over now.

I promise you this, Salem… from here on out, you will only know love. You will be safe, you will be cherished, and you will never be forgotten again. It’s all behind you now, baby.
Suzette has promised to update us on Salem as his progress continues.
