At Arlington Animal Services in Texas, two old souls named Sam and Dean, who by no fault of their own, were recently found as strays. The two senior dachshunds cling to each other; no doubt they are best friends.

First, we have Sam (ID#59325714). He is a longhaired dachshund mix estimated to be about 10 years old and weighs 11 pounds. His friend Dean (ID#59325696) is also a longhaired dachshund who is thought to be 12 years of age and weighs just shy of 8 pounds.

Both dogs have been neutered, but they have been neglected. Sam and Dean both suffer from dental disease and are showing signs of senility where they stare at the walls and/or walk in circles. Both dogs do eat well and are very much interested in being with someone who shows them love and attention.

Sam appears to be blind and has a Grade 1 heart murmur on the right side. He also has difficulty hearing. Dan has trouble seeing.

If their owners do not come to the shelter to reclaim them, the boys will need an experienced rescue organization and possibly be placed in a hospice rescue. Still, they are sweet and want to live hugging and sleeping together in the incredible bond they have developed through the years.
If you are interested in fostering please contact the shelter at [email protected]. They will connect you to a rescue partner.
