On Wednesday evening, independent rescuer Faith Easdale was asked to help with a starving and neglected dog spotted in a field in Yucaipa, a city near San Bernardino. The dog had been sitting in a field and was seen several times narrowly escaping being struck by a vehicle while running along a busy roadway.

Rescuers initially thought the dog was a female, and she was little more than skin draped loosely over bones. She was covered in foxtails, which are summer grasses with barbed heads that resemble a fox’s tail. These can be very dangerous to animals, since the barbed seeds can burrow into the dog’s body through the nose, mouth, ears, eyes or skin and cause abscesses and critical infections.
Fortunately, Faith and her team were able to humanely trap her; she was so hungry and so wanted to feel safe.

Does anyone recognize this pup?
If you’re unfamiliar with the Parti Poodle, these beautiful dogs are purebred poodles with a white base and irregular patches of another color; in this case black. The name “parti” refers to the dog’s part white and part black coat coloring.
Once the dog was safe, they found out she was a male. Three professional groomers volunteered to help. His paws were bloody and raw from trying to evade motor vehicles on the busy highways. And then lying in a field full of foxtails, this poor pup endured hours of bathing, cleaning, trimming and the meticulous removal of the foxtails.
When I said skin and bones I wasn’t kidding
It’s absolutely heartbreaking
But things are looking up
Thank you Cindy for always helping with emergencies
And Ashley for emergency fostering.
At this time, Ashley has been caring for the dog:
Hi, I am currently fostering this sweet baby named Jake. Initially, we thought he was a girl, but is actually a boy. Jake has a vet visit scheduled for tomorrow,
If interested in adopting Jake, when he is ready will be available through FOCHP (Friends of Orange County’s Homeless Pets
This is how skinny he is (He will be putting on weight as he feels better and is placed on a carefully regulated diet)
Many thanks to the volunteers and everyone always out there in the streets, in the fields and in the impossible areas where no one wants to enter.
