Heartbreaking: 7 newborn puppies abandoned with sad note in cardboard box

Spread the love

At St. Mary’s County Animal Services located in Lexington Park, Maryland, a litter of seven newborn puppies were found abandoned on Friday in a cardboard box. There was no sign of the mother dog.

The puppies were estimated to be no more than a few hours old; a simple handwritten plea for help had been left in the box with them.

It is no one’s intention to bash anyone, but the shelter is reaching out to raise awareness. The staff and volunteers are incredibly glad the puppies have made it to the shelter, but this is definitely not the way to surrender pets – especially puppies.

And so it might happen that an unwanted or accidental litter of puppies have been born, and the owner can not care for them, then why not reach out for help? Information is the key to helping these defenseless little ones have a chance to grow up and have the lives they deserve. Surely, they didn’t ask to be born, and they certainly didn’t deserve to be abandoned.

Did the mother dog have a medical emergency or were the puppies taken away from her? Have the puppies been exposed to any infectious illnesses? Did someone try to bottle feed the puppies? If anyone has any information to make it better for these newborns, please contact the shelter.

The seven puppies are now in a foster home where they are being cared for “around the clock.”

If a pet owner is in need of help, please reach out and let the shelter guide you through decisions before leaving puppies on their own. Had no one found them or if a wild predator had found them, their stories would have already ended.

The shelter would like to get involved before puppies are left all on their own. Please call 301-475-8018.

And if you’re interested in supporting the Pet Pantry and auxiliary programming to support struggling pet owners in the community, check out the Amazon Wish List. They are in particular need of puppy formula right now… for obvious reasons.
