Four three weeks, four dumped Labradoodles roamed the streets in Compton, California. They had been abandoned as if their lives were of no importance. Four young dogs were left to fend for themselves through the blistering heat and the chilly nights. None of them had any experience on the streets finding food. All they knew was to wait for their person. They were so hungry.

Residents in the area were concerned about the dogs. They often spotted the dogs together. Sometimes they would hide under a car, sometimes in the middle of the street. Dogs don’t understand abandonment. They only understand loyalty.
Some neighbors were kind enough to feed them. Other residents in the area threatened to poison them. The dogs didn’t know who was to be their friend or their foe. They had not been around long enough to know how cruel people could be to each other or to dogs.
They were still holding onto hope that the people who dumped them soon return. Fortunately, one of the neighbors had contacted independent rescuer Suzette Hall. Together with her teammate, Mary, the women showed up at the location, and the dogs were ready to be rescued.

Ready for kindness.
Ready for love.
Ready to be saved.
We didn’t even need to trap them. One by one, they came to us. Jumping into our arms like they had been waiting for this very moment. They were filthy, itching from fleas, dehydrated, and exhausted… but so, so grateful.
And today… they are safe. One by one the women carried them to the rescue’s partner vet, and they are have been receiving everything they need; care, comfort, and compassion.

These four sweet babies have stolen hearts. They waited so patiently. And now… now they finally know what it feels like to be chosen.

And from this moment forward, his life changes forever. And now just FOUR days later, the dogs have all had their baths, their vaccinations, flea treatment and are now heading off to the next chapter of their lives with Alix Levy Smith at Second Leash On Life.

They’re getting their true second leash on life — tails wagging, hearts full and smiles as big as can be. You’d never guess they were ever unwanted.

Sweet, happy, loved; exactly how it should be.
