Sweet loving shepherd checks all the boxes to be a great companion but shelter has her on ‘alert’

In Los Angeles, California, the East Valley Animal Shelter has been the temporary home for a sweet, loving four-year-old German shepherd who arrived on June 4, 2024. Luz has just been placed on the “alert” list and tentatively scheduled to be euthanized on August 5, because she has been “spinning in her kennel” – a sign of stress.

The shelter noted the following:

“Euthanasia Reason: Luz is jumping, spinning, chasing tail, barking and growling. Under medication Trazadone.”

Adoption Listing: A2143741

Located At: Los Angeles Animal Services – East Valley Shelter

Description: My name is Luz and I am an unaltered female, brown and black German Shepherd Dog.

Age: The shelter staff think I am about 4 years old.

Weight: I weigh approximately 60 pounds.

More Info: I have been at the shelter since Jun 04, 2024.

Shelter notes indicate Luz had been taken to the staff veterinarian by a volunteer to have an ear hematoma injury addressed. She was calm, sweet and shy. She loved the car ride, and while at the vet, Luz was cooperative with the techs and allowed all handling.

Luz’ last behavior report stated the dog had not been walked in 12 days, but she was exceptionally calm and cooperative while being leashed. She pulled a bit while walking through the hallways of the dog kennels as she was eager to get outdoors. In the yard, she walked calmly and stepped in and out of the pool, ignored the other dogs and was content to lie down and chew on a ball she found.

she was very easy to handle, but shy. She let me pet her but kept to herself. Easy to return as well.

Luz seems like a really lovely girl, just a little unsure about new situations but very adoptable and loving.

In a playgroup experience, the dog did not engage in play, appeared tolerant of other dogs and paced. Check out her brief video:

The last day to rescue Luz is 08/04/24; “she is available for adoption to anyone.”

Please Share for a life-saver to adopt/rescue LUZ.
