Once ‘forgotten dog’ will soon lose her life at Miami shelter after waiting 9 months for someone to love

Ivy’s time at the Miami-Dade Animal Services in Florida is nearly over. Once she was a “forgotten dog” at the old Miami shelter, and now she doesn’t have much of a chance. In June, she was brought to the shelter, but she was severely underweight and dehydrated.

The staff and administration don’t seem to be able to give Ivy a break. After she started showing signs of an upper respiratory infection, she was sent to the old shelter where she had been all but forgotten. Now, when she has been brought back to the new building, she suffers from bloody diarrhea and severe stress. Ivy needs someone to help her before it’s just too late.

As for socialization and help, last September she was led out into the play yard, thrown out into an environment with other strange dogs, and then staff members wondered why Ivy didn’t do well. They say they don’t have the time or resources to do slow introductions, so it’s every dog’s ultimate test – don’t confuse anyone with details.

And now, because Ivy’s social skills with other dogs were not successful, she was placed in a shelter cage in the back. If Ivy could speak, she would tell you how her life has been, so a volunteer has stepped up to help:

they will no longer take me out to give me a second chance. Even now they aren’t acknowledging me as i count down the minutes, the hours, the days before i take my last breath. Please be my voice now that i no longer have one.

Ivy is a five-year-old terrier mix who weighs 50 pounds. She is currently being treated by the shelter’s veterinary staff, however due to the extent of medical or behavioral care required the pet will benefit from rescue.
