An eight-week-old cocker spaniel was found dumped in a trash container at Dunelm in Gloucester by a Good Samaritan who rushed the puppy to an emergency veterinarian. Sadly, it is thought the puppy had been tossed into the trash because of a serious medical issue; her elbow on one front leg had fused together making it nearly impossible for her to walk correctly.
Unfortunately, her issue is congenital, and there is nothing more that can be done to correct the problem, except to amputate her leg and then rehabilitate her with physiotherapy and possible hydrotherapy. As she is still so young, surgeons want to wait another 15 weeks before the operation can be done.
She has a fused elbow as a result of congenital elbow dislocation. We have had the Vale Vets Dursley Referrals specialist team working on her case. Amputation is the best treatment for her following expert advice.
Winnie also unfortunately suffered 2 seizures on 6th September. This was very distressing for us all, and we are all very worried about her. Due to this, Winnie will now undergo further testing to rule out anything sinister. This will now take priority.

It’s likely the previous owner couldn’t afford her care so decided to abandon her when she needed help. The RSPCA (England & Wales) is currently appealing for any information. This condition could have happened at birth and left untreated or may have happened a few weeks ago. Veterinarians state it is an old injury which is why the bone has fused.
Now named Winnie, she is described as an adorable puppy already learning favorable behaviors with her foster mother who is also a senior animal care assistant at the Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home.
