Day in and day out, Butler lived in an abandoned house in St. Louis. He was hungry, thirsty, lonely and scared. What dog doesn’t dream of a home of their own and the love of a faithful human, but Butler thought himself as unworthy. Who would want a filthy, skinny dog? He had been abandoned, no one cared, and that was to be his future.

One day, Stray Rescue of St. Louis staff member Donna appeared from around the corner. Yes, Butler saw her, but the dog had been alone for such a long time and had watched humans come and go without ever giving him a glance, he couldn’t imagine the woman being there to help him.

… she couldn’t possibly be there for you. So you assume she’ll ignore you like everyone else and keep going. You lay your depressed head down in defeat and after having to accept the fact that you’ll be alone forever.

That turned out NOT to be the case, and yes, Donna was there to save Butler. On the day he was rescued, Butler didn’t believe anyone wanted him; that is until rescuers walked right up to him, he stood up and allowed a leash to be gently placed around his neck. As he walked to the car – THAT’S when his tail

started going like a helicopter! And he’s been so full of joy every moment since.

Unfortunately, the foster home Butler has been at, has to return this loveable guy to the shelter because of landlord issues. He needs a home, and no one wants him to have to return to the shelter.

Here’s Butler’s description:

Hi! My name is Butler and I am ready for my forever home. I am the goofiest, cuddliest, and most affectionate pup you will ever meet. I’m the definition of wearing my heart on my sleeve. My whole body wiggles with excitement whenever my foster parents come home. I LOVE walks and being outside. I have a lot of energy but am also happy sleeping for hours after my walks. I am very interested in other dogs and get along great with my foster sister. I also have rarely barked since being here! I have a little skin infection right now that I am currently getting treated for and will hopefully clear up soon. Stray Rescue will provide my medication and do check-ups until it’s all cleared. I would be a great addition to any home and I’m excited to meet you!”
