In the Redlands area of California, a loyal dog wouldn’t leave an old sleeping bag left out in a field. It didn’t matter if the sleeping bag was soaking wet from the rain or covered with snow; the hungry Boxer mix believed her human would return. And so she waited and waited.
On Monday evening, volunteers from Dream Fetchers Organization were asked to help rescue the dog that kind area residents had been feeding. Months ago, neighbors reported seeing the dog walking away from a homeless camp. Maybe her person had been the owner of the old sleeping bag?
For weeks the dog waited at that exact spot; there had been no sign of the person she had been waiting for, and so the wonderful people who had been caring for her reached out for help.
“We had a trap taken to the field and it didn’t take long to save her,” rescuer Faith Easdale posted on social media. “It’s so cold tonight; ice on the ground, on that sleeping bag and field, but she will never be cold again.
Tonight she’s laying on a warm blanket. No more cold lonely nights.”
The dog isn’t microchipped. She has definitely had babies, and we can only hope they survived. A description and photograph of the dog have been sent to the shelter. It is not known if she has an owner or if anyone is looking for her. Time will tell.
