This once beautiful dog is scarcely recognizable as a Great Pyrenees. Just a day ago, he was picked up by Animal Control near the Dallas area where he had been scavenging through trash cans and parking lots just to stay alive. Many nights there were no scraps to be found, and slowly he had been wasting away from starvation and related health issues. It seemed as if everyone had turned their backs on “just another stray.”
“His bed is wherever his body collapses and sleep is restless from hunger and fear. No one wants this filthy dog; he is yelled at, objects thrown at him and even shots have been fired. His skin crawls with more bugs and parasites, that they out number the hair he has left stretched across his skeletal frame…”Dallas Dog – Rescue.Rehab.Reform Facebook
It’s as if this dog had already given up when he was picked up by Animal Control. His future looked bleak for the minutes following his capture, although concrete walls and steel bars may not have been ideal, at least he would no longer have been starving. And with no one to care about him, in a few days he would have met his fate; a slow walk to the backroom of the shelter where he would have been humanely euthanized never knowing what he had done to offend the people who turned their backs on him.
Fortunately, Dallas Dog – Rescue.Rehab.Reform have come to his rescue, and this dog won’t be one of the unnoticed who die on the streets or in the back room of a crowded shelter. He has been transferred to the organization’s partner veterinarian, and we will update as soon as more information about his condition is released.
