In Clark County, Indiana, the woman charged with abandoning puppies last month was arrested on Friday after authorities spotted her walking along Ridge Road. Amber Davis, 23, has been accused of abandoning her five black Labrador retriever puppies for two weeks after moving out of the trailer she lived in on Beechwood Drive.
According to Wave3News, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office had been dispatched to the vacant trailer on January 17 in Charlestown in reference to an animal cruelty report. When authorities arrived, Davis’ cousin stated the five dogs had been abandoned without food or water; the trailer was covered with urine and feces. Three of the puppies weighed just 14 pounds each, compared to an average 25-pound weight for their age and breed. The two healthier puppies were initially moved to Clark County Animal Control and transferred to J.B. Ogle Animal Shelter in Jeffersonville.
“The Arrow Fund is pleased to report that after a week in a 24 hour emergency hospital in intensive care, the 3 pups that we took in are doing well. We literally pulled them from the brink of death. They were severely emaciated. The 3 pups Piper , Prudence, and Phoebe are in separate foster homes now and are being showed the love that they always deserved.”
Davis has been charged with five counts of cruelty to animals. If convicted, she could spend five years in jail.
