When Polo was brought into a North Carolina veterinarian’s office on Thursday by his owners to be euthanized, a rescue partner called Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC and asked if they would help. Barely recognizable as a  dog, the purebred, five-year-old Shih Tzu weighs barely 10-pounds and had to have lived his short life in one of misery and neglect.Polo RDR

“Still think it’s okay to buy a dog from a puppy mill breeder?” asked Jackie on the organization’s Facebook page as veterinarians assessed the young dog’s horrible physical condition.

Although the details of Polo’s past life are vague and may never be known, it is disturbing to think the dog’s owner watched this pup’s health deteriorate and never sought help. His condition didn’t just happen after days, weeks, or even months. According to his treating veterinarian, these conditions occurred over years. What small amount of fur Polo even had left on his body was completely matted. He suffers from severe bacterial and yeast skin infections. His ears are infected, he has acute dental disease, and his nails are grotesquely overgrown.Polo RDR2

And when his family looked at him in disgust – only because they neglected him, Polo was thrown away as if he was yesterday’s trash. Now the little dog will truly get a second chance at life. He will be treated, both physically and emotionally, and when he is well enough, will be transferred to a foster home. I really despise breeders, who do this, as if the animal is nothing. Wish they all could be treated the same way! All about the money, cold, greedy people! Breaks my heart!!!

I’m not clear whether this dog was bought from a puppy mill and then left to get in this condition or was it a breeding dog from a puppy mill? Poor little dog it’s owners certainly didn’t care for him and thankfully the vet didn’t put him down as requested. Again Rescue Dogs Rock NYC to the rescue. bless this organization!

This is the reality of puppy mills! They are concentration camps for dogs on par with what Hitler had set up! There are those who will become angry at my use of the holocost in reference to puppy mills because to most humans they are just dogs! Well they are more than that! And if you want to get down to the nitty gritty those who were in the camps were just humans! Dogs have souls they feel love joy sadness loss and pain just like humans! The difference they don’t cause holocosts!

I want to know why his “owners” haven’t been ARRESTED! I thought animal abuse had been made a FELONY by the FBI! This poor little baby. I hope he finds a home where he will be LOVED and CHERISHED. ????

I just cannot watch this shit! It’s not because I do not care, it’s because it hurts so much to read and see, every day, how mean, cruel and violent mankind is to these vulnerable, helpless, innocent dogs who need our voices! Some are abused right in plain sight and people just turn the other cheek, and sometimes behind closed doors where they’re raped, skinned alive and bludgeon to death. Why the hell are puppy mills legal?! Disgusted with mankind and how man’s best friend is betrayed! How much more of this will go unpunished around the world for there to be some real action, real laws to protect these innocent creatures of God? Judges and law enforcers will never care enough what happens, afterall they’re just animals they say, with their poor judgmental mentality. I wish, because all animals are so vulnerable, that anyone found hurting these animals be eliminated, either judicially or vigilanty style without repercussions, seriously! We humans are not worthy of God’s creatures! I have to wonder what life would be like if these creatures, suddenly, disappeared from this earth? I wish they’d be transported to a friendly planet where they’d be treated and cared for with love, respect and kindness! 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 SMDH

I pray only slow agonizing horrible death for puppy mills breeders to animal abusers…since we can’t take them to a laboratory research for human testing !

  8. Nancy Raymond says:

These piss poor examples of ownership should be euthanized – they let Polo suffer and did nothing to help him except dump him in a shelter – Thank God for Rescue Dogs Rock -NYC for stepping in to help him. This is a prime example of WHY puppy mills should be outlawed nationally. They care nothing about the animals, only their profits.

  9. Jill k. says:

May the evil owners who dumped this darling little dog at a shelter….find a life of hell on earth for what they did to this animal!!!! They sure deserve it!

I just came across this article. I adopted this little guy FKA Polo, now Archie. He’s now living the good life in Pennsylvania. He’s an amazing and resilient dog. I can’t thank Rescue Dogs Rock NYC enough for saving this guy.
