At just four years of age, a terribly neglected Lab just curled up in a shelter cage at the San Antonio Animal Care Services. Advocates flinched in pain at the sight of her condition, when the brown and white Labrador retriever’s photographs circulated through social media. Where had she been and what happened? Was she another victim of dog fighting; the most egregious form of animal cruelty to ever be recognized by criminals as a “sport”?
On Friday afternoon, Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, a non profit focusing on urgent animal cruelty and neglect cases, stepped up to help the sweet dog, now dubbed Polly. Her severely compromised condition with painful red skin and deep sores – both infected and swollen, will challenge her chances of survival.
“Polly is lucky to be alive. We were heartbroken when we saw this poor girl. Polly needs and deserves all of our help. Please help, and stand with us against abuse. If you suspect any animal is being abused or neglected, don’t wait for the next person. Please don’t turn your back as someone did with Polly – stand up for the defenseless,” stated Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of the rescue organization on the group’s Facebook page.
Polly has been transferred to the rescue’s partner veterinarian. We will update as information is made available. To help with the neglected Lab Polly’s veterinarian care, please click here or Donate@rescuedogsrocknyc.org. Checks and donations can be mailed to RDR NYC PO BOX 101 NY, NY 10028.
