Meet Toots – the heartbroken Beagle, who by far is having the worst day of her life. Her family surrendered the friendly pup, they adopted in Hawaii six-years ago, to go on vacation for several weeks. On Saturday, Toots was led into the high kill San Bernardino City Animal Shelter. Her photo reveals the panic in her eyes. Animal advocate and shelter volunteer Andrea Neyses tells the dog’s story:

“Today I saw the most selfish of humans! Going on vacation in a week or so giving up their family member Toots who they adopted six years ago in Hawaii. That’s not the worst of it; they got a new dog they are taking with them. Who can look in her face and know you’re their whole world and still walk away?,” questioned Andrea. “You have a real nice vacation. I bit my lip.”

A Facebook page for Toots can be followed here or here. TOOTS ID (#A504559) is described as a six-year-old female, spayed Beagle mix. Share this dog’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. (Please note there has not been any information offered about the new dog – whether the family already owned the puppy or just adopted it.) Advocates want to concentrate on finding a loving home or qualified rescue organization for Toot as quickly as possible. Emotions are riding high – which is to be expected,  however the rescue world is coming together to help a dog in need. Funds are being pledged for an approved rescue organization.

Unfortunately, the San Bernardino City Animal Shelter is closed on Sunday and Monday and no more adoptions are permitted today. For further information contact:

Well isn’t this a good idea! Go on vacation and drop your dog off at the nearest shelter! I hope these POS’s have the worse vacation possible and I pray for their “new” dog doesn’t end up like Toots!

We all understand that we need to concentrate on helping the dog, but until people are educated and made to be responsible they will treat animals like garbage. Currently we are ENABLING cruel behaviour. These people are dumping a piece of property at a taxpayer funded facility for the taxpayer to deal with. Like we dump old appliances at the county dump. They have no right to privacy for starters. I hope at least that the shelter (taxpayers) charge a surrender fee.

How can someone be so heartless.
We said goodbye to our best friend Woody yesterday. He gave us twelve years of unconditional love. It was our turn to show him how much we truly loved him.
I would give up all my vacations for the rest of my life just to have a little more time with him.

I pray the place or any shelter would never allow, ANYONE, to surrender an animal and then adopt one at the same time, if someone surrenders an animal, they shouldn’t be allowed to adopt one AT ALL! People SUCK

Why were they allowed to adopt another dog? They should have been told no, and shame on you as a shelter for allowing this.
