The heartbreak of having been left behind again had to have made this poor shepherd’s life nearly unbearable. Residents in the South Bay area of Los Angeles thought a homeless man had been caring for the dog. But then came the fire, and the vacant building the two had been living in burned down, and the homeless man left. The loyal dog was left behind, but he waited for his person to return.
When Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, answered the plea for assistance from another rescue volunteer, she quickly drove over and knew she couldn’t leave the dog behind. He was terrified; both sad and lonely and trusted no one.
The two women watched him for what seemed like forever. The shepherd hid for hours and nearly had been sturck by a car while crossing the road. He was so hungry, and he would wander over to the cat feeding station for food, but even the cats scared him.

Because dogs are so loyal, he kept returning to the only home he ever knew; back to the blackened pieces of wood and the stubborn smell of smoke because that’s all he knew. Maybe his owner would be looking for him, so waiting would be the right decision, he thought.

we spent days, our hearts broke. We couldn’t sleep. he wanted so badly to go back and find the home the way it used to be.
Suzette
On Monday morning, Suzette arrived very early and spotted the dog going in and out of his old home, but it was nothing but soot and ashes. She set the humane trap, and within an hour, Suzette heard barking. It was him! He was rescued!
Nanette came as fast as she could, and the two women lifted him safely into Suzette’s van. Fortunately, a foster parent stepped forward, and this boy is no longer homeless, and he no longer has to whimper for help.
Yes, Suzette was covered in ashes and soot, but the dog is safe.
