In a heart-rending challenge of loyalty and inner strength, Muttville Senior Dog Rescue shared the story of a senior German shepherd that had been abandoned in the Southern California desert. She had been left in an “igloo” dog house and remained near that one spot, so as not to miss when her owner would return.

Her owner never returned.

Fortunately, help was to arrive.

Dogs are amazing and Irises is proof. Even after being left behind, this resilient senior shepherd still trusted people and found a new beginning after coming to Muttville.

When a Good Samaritan had been notified about the heartbreaking situation, he drove out to help, and when the warm-hearted person arrived, the dog was all too eager to leave the desert.

The Muttville post on Instagram read:

The dog willingly came along with the rescuer, with trust and hope.

The dog was taken to a local shelter, but an eight-year-old large dog’s chances of being adopted were slim. Muttville offered to take the dog and give her a second chance. And as her sweet personality and disposition evolved as she became more comfortable, it was hoped someone would want to make her part of their family.

She was named Irises and moved on to a foster home.

Sometimes fate seems to set in, and in this sweet dog’s life, there was soon to be a person making all the difference in the world for her. She was going to “belong,” and it had been a man who had inquired at the shelter asking for a “calm and softhearted companion.”

The two instantly bonded, and Irises spends her days being snuggled and loved.
