At the Iredell County Animal Services in Statesville, North Carolina, a seven-year-old poodle blend named Parker has lived through an incredible journey. Recently, the pooch showed up alone at a local business; there was no owner in sight.

It had been a Good Samaritan who brought him to the shelter, hopefully giving the little lost dog a new beginning.

Parker did have a microchip, and his last known home had been in Washington State. When the shelter staff spoke to the registered owners, they said their dog had disappeared five years ago. The family searched for him for years, but said they had come to the realization he was gone forever. And now, due to life changes, they were not able to take Parker back.

Parker’s story remains a powerful reminder; if you find a stray animal, please contact your local animal control and never transport the animal out of the area. Sometimes lost pets end up far from home, just like Parker, who ended up across the country, far from where anyone would think to look.

The 16-pound pooch has been described as having the “kindest, most gentle personality.” He did arrive with severe dental disease, and thanks to the veterinarians treating the shelter pets, he has had several teeth removed, the others cleaned and now has a new and healthier lease on life.
We may never know where Parker has been or who cared for him over the past five years.

Parker was made available for adoption, and that just didn’t take long.
ADOPTED!
And then it happened. On Thursday, April 11, 2026, Parker met his new family. He was adopted!
Many thanks to everyone who helped Parker find his new home.
