Rottweiler dumped in kennel on side of road and unable to walk now surrounded by people who care

Brody was found abandoned on the side of the road; he had been trapped inside of a kennel and left without a second glance. He couldn’t stand. He couldn’t walk. He was just left – abandoned.

A kind woman named Kristen, who feeds stray dogs before she heads to work, spotted a kennel and as she walked up, she saw big pleading eyes staring right back at her. Someone finally noticed him. It is not known how long he had been lying in the cage, but last Tuesday, February 4, was Brody’s lucky day.

Rescuers from ThisIsHouston rushed him to Vergi 24/7 Emergency Hospital, where he underwent extensive diagnostics to figure out what was happening to him and how to help him heal.

And even though he’s microchipped, the listed owners have refused to help; they ignored calls and refused to speak with anyone.

The owners on file initially ignored calls/texts about him, but when a report with authorities was made, they made contact and said he had been missing for a month.
There is still an open report, but evidence is key and right now, there is none.

The six-year-old Rottweiler is extremely undernourished and not able to stand on his own. He has severe hip dysplasia and entered the emergency room in significant pain. In addition to not having been able to stand, he also tested positive for heartworms, Giardia and hookworms. He has a severe UTI and debris in his urine.

Fortunately Brody has been eating and taking his medications. He is warm, safe and is now surrounded by people who care and are kind. Perhaps Brody hasn’t known any kindness for a long time?

He is still unable to use all four limbs, and all diagnostics (x-rays and CT scans) have come back normal. A tick disease panel was sent off yesterday, as well as a Rottweiler health panel through U.C. Davis Veterinary Genetics Laboratory. This panel bundles together several genetic tests relevant to Rottweiler health. Hopefully, a diagnosis will soon be coming.

While staff is working to figure him out medically, they’re also working on trust building and helping him mentally. He has started to allow hand feedings, and he also allowed them to take him out on a sling yesterday.

Brody’s care is already over $5,000, and every additional test and day costs more. This is a lot of money to put into one dog, but dogs like Brody deserve someone to fight for them.

If you’d like to support his journey back to health, even small donations would help tremendously!

He may have been left behind… but he’s not alone anymore.

Brody is still quite cautious. Check out his video … little by little…
