In Wolcott, Connecticut, motorists had been driving along Route 69 when they slowed down after spotting a dog along the side of the road. At first, the Good Samaritans thought the dog had passed away, but as they bent over to check, he was barely breathing and appeared close to death.

Meet Tony; his story of survival will surprise you, but he’s a story of hope and resilience.

When Tony was found, he was covered in what counted out to be 890 ticks. His ears had been so full of ticks, the insides looked black. He also suffered from bite wounds and punctures. And as if that wasn’t enough, he was severely anemic, exhausted and emotionally broken.

The compassionate staff at Wolcott Dog Pound Wolcott Police Department rushed the dog to Mack & Molly’s Pet Parlor LLC where all the ticks were carefully extracted in a 4.5 hour grooming session. Tony took everything like a trooper. He even made some new friends.

Tony has since had a full exam, bloodwork and vaccination. He tested negative for Lyme, but he is anemic and is now on antibiotics with more tests pending.

This adorable little guy has already made friends, and as he slowly continues to heal, he’s definitely winning the hearts of everyone he meets. And despite all that he has been through, Tony doesn’t stop wagging his tail.
